Sony Kills 8 Mm Video Support

It seems that Sony is on a roll with the disruption of legacy formats. First he killed the cassette Walkman last year, a few weeks ago he stopped producing the MiniDisc Walkman, and now, the company announced that it will no longer support the 8mm video format. Deposit of video format, which was popular in 1980 is no longer getting any new Sony devices to work.

The GV-D800 GV-D200, the last two video recorders Sony 8 mm was no longer in production come September. However, Sony are still experiencing 8mm tapes, but for how long - do not know.

In today's world where image and sound is all digital and stored on media like flash drives and memory cards - no real need for more traditional media such as videotape. Do not be surprised if other manufacturers follow Sony's footsteps in the future. Some of you have memories of the 8 mm video tape format sad to see go?
