Samsung Advanced Institute Of Technology Bulits Prototype Of A Folding Screen Phone

LONDON: Mobile phone manufacturers have tried in vain to make small devices with larger screens. However, the sheer impossibility of creating a transparent screen vetoed the idea of a flip phone. Until now.

Researchers at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, South Korea, have built a prototype of a folding screen seamlessly, which opens to show that a regular smartphone.

The display consists of two diodes Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) panels in the window of silicone that prevents scratches and can be used for a touch screen, according to the Daily Mail.

When folded, they are separated by a gap of only one millimeter. But when the screen is opened, a panel is almost completely on top of the second and looks seamless.

The researchers tested the durability of a folding screen from 100 cycles emerging 000-fold. They said that the success has been to monitor the optical properties of materials.

"All the materials in a foldable window unit (glass and silicon rubber) should have almost the same optical properties and attach to each other without any optical property change significantly," said Samsung HongShik Shim.

This new technique has not yet taken off due to high production costs.

However, he decided to compete in innovative designs, such as the iPad, a number of large producers have decided to expand research and development of new products with innovative folding screen.

Samsung hopes that its large display devices will soon be available with the AMOLED technology.
